I will be buying a climbing frame for my boys and want to know what ground work preparations I need to do before installing it as I want spend a bit of time getting it right so it lasts years.

I want to know what’s the best in terms of drainage, weed control and what sort of material to put down for protection etc.

thanks.

A good quality treated wooden climbing frame (or the steel and plastic equivalents) will last longer than childhood, so it can be simply placed on grass, which will be safer - when the kids (inevitably) fall off - than concrete or other hard surfaces are.

You could put dpc plastic where the frame is in contact with the ground, making sure it doesn't act as a trap for moisture/rain.
