Growing basil indoors

During the summer we had great success growing basil from seed in the greenhouse but I can't get it to live let alone grow indoors.

I needed some for a dish so rather than buy cut I bought a couple of those pots from Tescos etc from strong healthy plants they all shrivel and die within a few days.

Any clues as to what I am doing wrong etc?
