Well, you’re having a good go there Bod. I like the wild garden area. One thing I find with ant sort of raised bed is that they tend to dry out quicker that the surrounding ground and need constant watering. Trouble with growing grass is that you need to do it in either the spring or autumn. Laying seed down in summer will mean that the ground will dry out quickly and, like most plants, the sun will scorch the small shoots before they get a chance get established unless they are watered every day and that looks like too big an area to water every day. On my allotment, I have large beds with vegetables and due to the recent hot weather plus with the hotter, drier weather to come, I’m only watering the plant and not the whole bed. The areas around the plants that get damp need constant weeding as that’s where weed seeds are growing but on the dry areas, nothing grows. Seed will need taking in and covered with a soil dressing to stop the birds getting to the seed, I doubt that sand of any sort will deter them but good luck and keep us all updated.
