i am trying to change my pond lights from halogen to leds,at the moment
they consit of 3 transformers 240ac/12volt ac 30watt each with 3 mr16 10 watt
halogen bulbs i want to change them to mr16 12volt led bulbs 1.3 watt (20 watt light?) the bulbs are consant voltage 21leds,they are ce&rohs
whatever that means.Iwant to use mt existing cables if poss,i know i need outdoor driver but what power?I the driver also the tranformer?
I have been told that the leds work in parallel and that the halogens in
series.I am now totally confused,so if there anyone who can help i would
apppreciate it,but keep it simple as my knowledge is very limited.

You're being optimistic there. More like 10 watts equivalent.

Yes, the driver takes in 230 volts and knocks it down to 12V DC for LEDs, and will run at very low wattage suitable for LEDs. However, some LED lamps may be suitable for AC power. Check this. There are no set standards for this.

I suggest you dont listen to the person who told you this ever again.

Is the pond lighting a "kit" of parts? Was it pre-manufactured and simply fastened in place? What about the transformer? What sort of transformer does it have? Is it outdoors? Or is it a wall-wart (plugs into a 13A socket)?

The transformer if that is what it is will work with less wattage than original however an inverter often loosely referred to as a transformer has a min as well as max output. Some inverters will close down when you change from tungsten to LED lamps.

In domestic about the only lights that work in series are Christmas tree lights all others work in parallel. Unless talking about very specialist lighting like airports you are very unlikely to find any lights wired in series.

LED's typically work on less than 2v and most used at home have some discrete circuits to allow higher voltage to be used. They also have little or no internal current limiting and so often are bought with internal current limiting resistors built in. Since you talk about MR16 I would expect that is the case with your lights and as long as you are drawing min watts and volts is correct it is simply un-plug old and plug in new.

Since the inverters fail safe you can just try.

yes it is a kit it has 3 12volt 10watt bulbs that are fed by one cable from the tramsformer he inf on it is ac/ac adapter input230-240v ac 50 hz output 12v ac 2500ma 30va ip64 conected to 13amp plug theled bulb infois 2pin gu5.3 1.3watt 12v 230luman need constast voltage tranformer is this a driver how do i calculate the size of driver/transformer.
