i want to put 4 20W low voltage spots in my floor boards, I want them on a dimer and I have a suspended floor with exposed boards so access there is easy. As a result can the lights be taken off the power ring with a jb as you would a spur for a new socket?

Don't worry i'm not trying this myself (as if i don't know this, i would burn down my house if i tried wiring) but just wondering if it was possible as i have just painted walls etc.

The other option would be running a whole new circuit from the consumer unit as it is in the hall next to the room but that seems like over kill.

Thanks.

Do it as a fused spur and look for cases that have suitable strength and IP rating for the enviroment.

Wouldn't want the Missus getting killed washing the floor or little Jonny going 'pop' when he decides to poke them.

Google TLC and look at the range of drive way, decking and floor based lights as a starting point.

use low voltage, NOT 240v ones and makes sure the fused spur is fused for the correct rating of whatever you end up putting in.

thanks fr the super fast reply! Good to know it is possible as i really didn't want to have to do all the conduit etc to break into lighting loop. Cheers aain.

Watch out for heat issues, LED might be a better option.

Heat will be a danger in the lamp is covered with something flammble like a newspaper. Even at just 20 watts paper can be ignited.

ONLY consider LED lights for in-floor lighting.

Why do so many people say this?

If this really was the case, why don't they leave it to the spark they will surely call to decide how best to install the equipment?

And if they want to know, ask them?

SO they have some idea, before having to call out a spark and find out they have to mess up their hall(in this case).
