First off... I know NOTHING about CH systems, I'd just like to be pointed in the right direction of a problem so that when I do call in an engineer I don't get the "Oooh that's a new boiler you'll be needing mate".

I opened the valve (at the back) as the pressure had dropped a little. Went away for the weekend and forgot that the valve was open until my neighbour pointed out the water running out of the pipe at the back of the house.

Now the system will not hold pressure for more than a couple of hours before dropping and the safety lock-out coming on.

From reading through the forum I'm guessing that I've knackered the Pressure Release Valve and a new one should cure the problem?

Any help gratefully accepted.

Happy Xmas to all.

That sounds likely!

You may be able to get it to seal by clicking it sharply a few times!

try what agile says, by opening and letting go the pressure relief valve. the problem comes when muck gets on the seal stopping it from pressure tightening. not a big job, nor an expensive part. if you do decide to change it, you can drain from the valve itself. good luck.

Thank you both - very helpful.

Do I just twist the plastic red end to try and get it to seal? It feels a bit wobbly, not sure if I'm twisting it correctly.

Got it chaps... if I turn it towards me it reduces the pressure, so snapping it back in the opposite direction should seal it. Trying it now. Will let you know.
