The boiler fires up but a few seconds later cuts out but the fan continues,got someone out to do a diagnostics test and he said it was the pcb so I replaced it but still have the same problem,the company I bought the Pcb say its the thermostat,any ideas?

The neons on the pcb give a clue as what's happening during the ignition sequence. Get a better repairman in who understands fault finding.

Your original man incorrectly diagnosed the problem. It would have been better to have had him complete the repair and only part with money on satisfactory completion. If the pcb didn't fix the problem then you should not have been charged for it.
It may well be a gas related fault, but I'll not guess as to what it may be. Need to be in front of boiler to diagnose correctly.

I have spoken to him and he says it a faulty pcb again,he may be right as it is a reconditioned pcb I bought,he said it can only be that or a very long shot the ignition sensor but swears its the board

We are not permitted to use repaired PCBs as are not "manufacturer approved" parts!
How much did he quote to supply and fit a proper new PCB? As stated you should have asked him to complete the repair but not paid for parts which did not fix the fault ( or for a wrong diagnosis either after giving him the opportunity to revisit his diagnosis! ).

I payed him £30 for diagnostics he wanted £230 for part and labour
Roger, if you had given the task of repairing your appliance to this chap, surely you would not now be asking questions here or be out of pocket.

My advice is, stop tinkering with your boiler and let those whose job it is, carry out the alloted task. Thus you may pay a bit more, but you will have reliable job done.

Actually I almost used magic yesterday! The internal front cover of this boiler was missing and I had annoyingly thrown one away from a boiler I removed recently. It was going to have to be left disconnected as dangerous.
However, checking the cylinder which I discovered in the basement, I found the boiler cover down there!

I have found an online new PCB for £122.47. Annoyingly they dont say if thats inc or plus VAT. I expect plus which would make it about £148.
