hammering sound coming from radiator

I just moved into an apartment building where i have radiators in each room, but do not control the boiler. every time the water starts flowing multiple loud hammering/pinging noise will come from the radiators. Is there anything i can do to stop this?

Sounds like it could be a mono-directional TRV pointing the wrong way.
If theres a single arrow on the side and it is pointing to where the hot water is coming from then I will be right in what I am saying.
Turn it round or fit it at the other end of the rad if possible. Failing that most of the new TRV's are bi-directional
