hanging a joist

Couple of questions:

1) in my loft the rafters sit on a wooden plinth set on the inner course of brick work.

can i screw a joist hanger onto this plinth and hang a joist off it?

2) the other section of the floor will be hung from a gable wall. Do i attach the joist hangers to the brick wall or attach a joisty to this wall and then hang the hangers off this?

If it's got brickwork supporting it then yes.

Either but bolting a joist to the wall first will be easier.
