Hanging a mantle

There are a lot of old posts to look through, but I think that I have a pretty simple question. I am going to hang a wood mantle onto a brick fireplace. I was going to use concrete screws to do it. Should the screws be put into the brick or the mortar joint. Or is there a better fastener to use? thanks for any help.

Do you mean Thunderbolts ? That`s a UK name for non expanding anchor bolts for concrete www.thunderbolt.co.uk

No, I don't think thunder bolts will work. Possibly TapCons? I don't want to ruin the fireplace by using the wrong thing!

Size, style of mantle? might make suggestions more useful.

The size is about 6 feet wide, and maybe a foot in height. Style is just simple qood with moulding. Thanks!
