Hi,

I'm buying some Oak veneer doors from Wickes. they all say to paint first but I don't have time to do it before the fitter comes. Will it make much difference if I do it after? I was intending on taking them off the hinges and coating with OSMO on a flat surface.

Is there any reason why I coat them first?

Assuming that they are interior doors (in a normally heated home) you should be fine.

More importantly, make sure that you keep them clean until you coat them.

I have sprayed their chipboard veneer doors before and they had been hung a couple of weeks earlier without any signs of veneer swell or warping

What about the frame and architraves? Are they new too?

They are going in old frames to replace duff doors. Do i need to do something differently?

They will be clean thanks for clarification

I don't see why it would make any difference but i would expect that the chippie will need to remove the door stops to follow the door

BTW even though Osmo say that you don't need to sand between coats i wild recommend a light rub over with 400g silicon carbide before applying the oil, primarily to flatten ant fibres in the veneer. Also between coats to remove any fluff from your rags.

Check joins in the veneer for glue marks, you may need to sand these out with 180/240 grit
