A few months ago we noticed the radiators were on when the hot water was on. Looking at various topics here I suspected the motorised valve was at fault so recently I called a plumber who changed it to a new Sunvic SD2701 3 port valve (reading from the empty box!)

We thought it had sorted it but only a few days later, the radiators were on again when only the hot water was switched on. The wall thermostat was also turned all the way down. The strange thing when this happened today is that only the upstairs radiators were hot, none of the downstairs where hot at all. Before the motorised valve was changed, I know for sure the downstairs rads came on because I was sat against one when it was discovered.

I called the plumber who said it sounds like an electrical fault and I need an electrician now. Can anyone suggest where else the fault may be ? Could it be the wall timer box or the wall thermo?

Thanks.

Jason. did the plumber change the motor component or the complete valve assembly. Look at the brass part to see if it is shiney new. Good chance the brass part is sticking, but only the electrical part was replaced

Hi, just the unit has been changed. I was left with the old one and there is no brass part attached to that!

As said above sounds like the valve is sticking. If this is the case the supply needs isolating the part that was replaced will have to be removed to see if you can manually turn the valve. If it cannot be turned then the chances are the valve will have to be replaced as well. Should have been checked really when the actuator was replaced.

Thanks for the info and I appreciate help from you guys.

When you sa isolate, I take it you mean the electricity supply to the valve? I can do this but as for removing the valve, is this easy? I'm pretty good at DIY ! Will I be covered in water if I remove it ?

Thanks

Yes isolate the electricity supply. There should be 2 buttons either side of the actuator just press them in and it should come off. Just gently try and move the valve.

sorry if your original supposedely breakdown man changed the valve he should also be able to find an electrical fault on your central hting system!!!!!!. Basic knowledge.

It does seem to be a sticking diverter valve, partly fixed by the new actuator. Honeywell valves can be repaired, although there will need to be a partial drain down to do this. Call your man back - he has not completed the work you asked him to do.
