Heating not turning off

Hello Central heating not turning off when switched off at programmer. Gas ideal logic 24 boiler. Motorised valve Ds222p. It comes on OK when switched on just won't turn off again, when I detach the motorised valve I hear it turning then to go off when it has been detached. I have to manually turn the valve on the pipe to off so the boiler shuts down.
Any ideas on how to fix this do I need new motorised valve? Thanks

You should be able to turn the brass base spindle by hand, if stiff oil it

Yeah can turn the brass base spindle by hand no problem. It a pain tho as to turn heat off have to remove motorised valve and then turn spindle by hand to shut the heat/boiler off as when turned off at programmer the valve doesn't shut the heating off. Turns on OK just not off. Would it be a new motorised valve?

Could be a sticking microswitch, which would need a new actuator (powerhead). Are you able to get access to the motor inside? If yes, check to make it’s not come loose

Yeah got inside and motor was tight

I tried base spindle today again to double check and it moves freely when turning on but to move it from on to off it is very stiff, give it oil but will need replaced as is still little stiff and not moving freely. Can I replace the base on its own and if yes do I need plumber or is it a DIY job?

Yes often available separately but depends on the manufacturer. Depends on your DIY capabilities/comforts.

The water valve part, are often not much cheaper than the complete valve, including actuator, but shop around - prices vary quite considerably...

You can change the valve yourself, it just needs the system draining down, to a little way below the valve height. Once replaced, the system refilled, and the air bled out. Don't forget you will need to top up with inhibitor.
