Often wondered about this. During very cold weather is it more economical to keep the heating on 24/7 or have it programmed for certain times. I tend to leave it on constant ,turning it down to about 13C when I go to bed and up to about 18C when I get home from work the next night. Makes it a bit cool in the morning but I am not in the house long before going to work.

An old chestnut!
It seems to depend on the house/heating. I think you have to put comfort first, if you can live with lowered temperatures then I can't see you doing better.

The less you heat the house, the less fuel you will use, and the less comfortable you will be.
