Hi,
I intend to install a multi-fuel stove into an existing, vacant opening under a chimney. I've taken out the old open fire, and the fireback and throat, and have just the original builders opening left
The inside brickwork is rough and unsightly, and is stained with forty years of soot and crud. So it will have to be rendered or tiled, but this is problematic. There'll only be about two inches clear space either side of the stove to whatever I put on the bricks. Things will get pretty damn hot!
Are there heatproof tiles and heatproof tiling adhesive? Or is there a heatproof render I could paint over? A final question: what do I 'size' the stained bricks with to ensure adhesion of the tiles or render?
Cheers,
