Just a quick one.
What is the regulation height for a plug socket these days?
just running the cables now and dont want to cut them too short
thanks

oh yeah and the height of a lightswitch. Do they have to be different to the ones in the original part of the house?

per part M at least 450mm BUT if you are working in an existing domestic property (not sure about the rules on commercial) you only have to make things no less satisfactory than they were before, in other words its perfectly ok to add your new sockets at the same height as the existing ones.

What if i have ripped out all the existing switches and sockets and put all the new ones in different places?

Also, is it the top of the bottom of the socket that should be 450mm?

If you are getting this work inspected by your BCO ask them. Some insist on them being fitted to the new heights while others only insist on then new heights being applied during refurbishments and other major work.
