Help - Cloakroom fitted does it need to be inspected

Hi,

We had a cloakroom fitted last year, at the time I asked the builder if it needed planning permission or inspection once complete, he said neither. The cloakroom had a basin and wc fitted with a macerator. A vent was installed to the outside and the stud wall was moved back. A pocket door was then installed on the front.

Would this need an inspection?
Can you obtain it retrospectively?

The installation of sanitary fittings requires a Building Regs application (though not planning permission).

The builder probably said you don't need any approval or inspection, just so that he could get straight on with the job, get paid, and then get out.

You can apply to Building Control for a regularization, but they will charge £££ for it, and if it's not up to standard, you will have more work to do to put it right.

But why bother? Who's going to know? Does anybody care?
Do you want to subsidize your local council officials to no useful purpose?
