Hello!

We’ve just moved house and we never thought about the size of the stairs being quite tight.

Therefore, we now have two fantastic wardrobes taking up all the room in our lounge.

I can see that the previous owner must have removed and re-installed the banister (please see photos). This would allow us to get the wardrobes up the stairs!

But for the life of me I can’t work out how to remove it again? Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Dan

By bannister you presumably mean the hand rail the spindles (or balusters) and the newel post at the foot of the stairs?

Is it just the section that is showing?

If so the spindles are likely skew nailed into the bottom rail, and in between there are the packing pieces which may be glued or nailed/screwed. Likewise for the upper rail. So it might very messy taking them apart unless done with the utmost care having identified any fixings, hidden or otherwise. A powerful magnet can assist in this respect.

It looks like you have identified where the newel is bolted to the rail. It may also be bolted at the base.

The above is based on my experience as a diyer with my own stairs.

Alternatively do the wardrobes dismantle in any way?

Blup

Look at the wardrobes because they may be able to be disassembled.
Secondly, ring a removals company and explain the issue

Either on here, or another forum, someone was advised to do the same after trying with mates weekend after weekend, to get something upstairs. - Two blokes who do it all day long popped round and did it in 10 minutes (albeit for two hours money)
