hi i need to replace some skirts. the ones that fit onto brick backed wall are fine however somewalls are not brick backed and have lath and plaster. i drilled through the skirt and drilled a hole into the lath strip however the screw keeps spining. what options do i have to secure it in properly?i dont think wall plugs can be an option as there is no brick just lath with plaster on it. any help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance

you need to find the studs of the lath and plaster wall, approx 16"centres,using a nail just below skirting height gently tap the nail through and when you feel like it is harder to hit you have(hopefully)found the stud, keep doing this until you have found them all,cut the skirts and transfer the marks onto the skirts.hth.

As suggested, find the studs. Personally, I use a cheap pipe/cable detector which picks us the nails that holds the lath to the studs.
