Help get me tiling please!

I am planning to tile with 600x 400mm natural stone tiles for my bathroom. Do I need to put a ply wood base under them or can I tile straight onto the old timber floors, which are damaged but secure and pretty flat?

I would certainly use a plywood base. Floorboards are not a sound foundation for tiles.
