Hi

I have the following waste, I think it's a JT40

I was just about to put the floor back down and thought I had better test the tray waste before doing so (I didn't fit the waste, just finishing the job). Anyway, I poured waster into the waste and it just filled up, did not drain away. I dissasembled the waste and have the above components. The middle component was pushed inside the left hand one, the these were then in the waste (right). Is this right?

And to make matter worse it is leaking. Arghhhh!!!!

Don't suppose there is such a thing as a 'basin mate' for shower trays is there?

When I removed the waste there was a ribbed rubber washer (ribbed side face up) under the tray, this was covered in sealant. Shower tray has been down now almost 2 weeks and the sealant they have smothered everywhere was still wet.

is their another trap in the waste line somewhere before it enters the soil pipe ?

have you tried water with the internals taken out of the trap and see if it drains ?

Hi again, thanks for the help

Yes, I have taken these out and the water drains. is it normal to have these two other components in the trap?

Lucky I tested it as it is leaking around the edge of the trap. Trouble is, I now have a big dirty water stain on our recently decorated downstairs hallway!!!!

Just had another look at how it drains. If I remove the trap and pur water into the elbow joint it will not overflow. However, when I remove the funnel there is still water in the pipe, all the water has not drained away.

the trap shouldn't empty completely

Sorry, my post was not very clear, I have removed the trap from the pipework, the water is still in the 90 degree elbow which joints the trap to the rest of the pipework. Picture below - I have twisted the elbow so not to spill any of the water. If you were to look down into the elbow you would see water in the bottom.

thats why we never useally run them through the joist as your restricted on the hole size and can't get the fall needed.
can you measure how much fall in mm over the length of pipe you have ?

Going from the plasterboard on the ceiling below to the bottom of the pipe it looks as though it is level :-(
