First thing to do is open all the windows it must stink. DO NOT let a young child sleep in the room tonight.

Its gonna take a while to film form and dry so after a couple of days give it a good rub down and apply either zinsser coverstain a fast drying solvent sealer or zinsser gardz. You'll be ok to go over with an emulsion once either has been applied.

Thanks for the reply! The house does stink your right, won't make this major mistake again, always check the tin. So I just let it dry over the next few days and apply zinsser coverstain, let that dry and re paint with emulsion or paint straight away?

well, not untill i had finished the room, its a small room but still, not a good job! i dont know what to do now!

So you didn't see the Gloss sign on the tin and the smell wasn't a gave away. It was only when you finished?

Was the paint tin made of metal and approx. 2.5 litres.?

I smell something and it's not gloss paint.

it was dulux gloss, i gotta admit, im silly and didnt know you shouldnt use gloss on walls! i know im an idiot! lol! now my room is a total mess! but back on track with all the information you have now, what can i do to paint over it? i dont want to do anything now untill i know 100% what im doing! im young and its my first house!

it has dried now and its awful! its so shiney in the room you need sunglasses just to go in. haha! got to laugh i suppose! but the colour is nice just dont like the gloss effect! i really dont know what to do, ive looked online and some people just say to sand it down and paint over, but i dunno, dont want to make another mistake again!

I've told you what to do! Refer to tins for drying times if you're unsure

Firstly you will need to purchase a lump hammer and chisel then hack off the plaster down to brick, only messing with you.

Just follow dcdec's advice above, you will be good to go then, just make sure you get the shine off then remove the dust first.

ok dcdec, im going to buy some zinsser coverstain tonight online! then get ready to do the room later in the week! thanks for your help!
