Hi, I have just had a new kitchen fitted but couldn't have the ceiling painted prior to being fitted due to a contractor issue.

The plaster is completely dry. I know the usual way is to apply a mist coat but that could be messy.

I bought a 10L Leyland Trade Contract Matt from B&Q and was told it can be applied directly to plaster but it seems this is not correct, it can only be applied to wet plaster and other paints won't adhere to it.

Want advice on the best way to paint the ceiling without too much mess and which is the best paint(s) to use?

Thanks

PS if anyone is in the Colchester area I have the said Leyland paint for disposal/giveaway as I can't find my bill to return to B&Q

Instead of a mist coat, Zinsser Gardz is a primer that can be applied directly to new plaster.
It is a little pricey, but it is a good product, that is a little bit less messy than a mist coat. You still have to take your time to avoid splashes though!

Why would anyone make a paint that can only be applied to wet plaster? It simply doesn't make sense.

If I buy paint I want it to stick to what I'm painting and the usual recommendation is, 'the area should be DRY, free from dust, oil and grease before applying.'

Who said it can only be applied to wet plaster?
