Have a new plaster ceiling in klitchen, will leave 2 weeks then get it painted, the approach on Dulux website as below, but Painter is saying this is old way, and now should be all Vinyl matte.

>>>
Mix and Apply a Mist Coat
Create your mist coat using a standard contract matte emulsion (which is breathable) and water (Not Vinyl Matt) . A popular ratio is 70% paint to 30% water,

Top coat
Once the mist coat is fully dry, apply 2 coats of ‘Kitchen & Bathroom paint’

Is there any reason not to tell him to follow Dulux process?

All paints ( and building materials) have a data sheet (instructions) look online.
So each paint can have a slightly different application or preparation over dry surfaces like plaster.
Often it's 10% water added for first coat but I normally add a bit more. The retail Dulux with dog on can, has thixotropic agent in it for the DIY market and that's not great over plaster.
You can use a plaster sealer like gardz then emulsion over without thinning.
I use bathroom scales for thinning paint as it's easy to do.

I think crown recommend using the clean extreme as a mist coat.
It's because durable emulsion don't like being applied to anything that is not a sealed surface.
You may end up using clean extreme as a mist coat over the vinyl matt

Why use a durable on the ceiling?
Will have around a 5% sheen as a durable.
You would be better with a lower sheen matt

Because it's a kitchen ..... and advice is 'kitchen & bathroom' paint (or the TRADE equivalent eg Clean Extreme) you are right I don't particularly want a sheen.
I'm open to better options if any.

It's because people cook and create steam.
They may not have an extractor or if they do it might not vent outside..
Also the type of cooking can effect paints especially if you have a deep fat frier.
Smaller kitchens also can get higher humidity from cooking..
So it's picking the correct paint for your room.
Our kitchen is 6m x 4m and I have Leyland smart matt on ceiling.
About 15 years ago the extenders used in emulsions were banned so paint has it's problems and people have different options on what's best based on experiences.
Hard to say which is best.
Johnstone’s Trade UltraFlat for example is not recommended for steamy bathrooms but looks great like many more on the market. Can still have problems sometimes.
I would go with what your decorator likes.
It's a known thing that slowly decorators are moving away from using two different paints on newly plastered ceilings but the chance is slow. People stick to what works.

I took your advice and looked at data sheet - it does say for Crown Trade Clean Extreme Matt to use this as the mist coat & top coat.
