I am a complete plumbing novice. I replaced my ball-cock with a silent filling valve no problem. Then discovered that my syphone, which wasn't flushing properly anyway, didn't fit in the tank with the new fill valve.

I therefore replaced it yersterday with a Wirquin flushing valve.

The cistern dispences the water down a brass pipe into the toilet.

I discovered that this pipe was too long for the new valve so cut it with a hack saw.

The new flush vave has fitted perfectly and thre is no leak until you flush. The the water not only goes down the pipe but also appears to be leaking outside of the pipe.

The pipe doesn't look totally snug inside the flush valve.

Is there anything I can do?

Adam
