Obviously it's an Ideal Classic something or other but anyone know what model this is?
The manual's gone walkies, probably binned in error. The sticker behind the panel suggests it could be an RS30, 40, 60 or 80. There's also a number at the top right hand corner of the sticker - It's about 10 years old.

Cheers

Looks like you have answered your own question there matey.

The best way to identify is through the GC no which is usually in the format of 00-000-00 where the zeros are random numbers.

Take the GC or Gas Council number to a spares stockists or manufacturer and they will be able to help you

It should have been marked when installed, otherwise.

You could check burner pressure from the info on the data badge to make sure it is set up right and then gas rate it.

Count how many seconds it takes to use 1 cubic foot of gas and report back, we'll tell you power of it.

Be very careful not to damage the plastic housing for the stat and controls as they are obsolete and suffer from the heat of normal use, if they fall apart the boiler should be condemned. I managed to obtain one off a shelf by ringing around but they are no longer made.

One of the best ways of selling your new range of boilers unreliable is to make a critical part like this for your very reliable old model which will otherwise last another 20 years, unavailable.

Cheers for replying guys.
We have no hot water or heating, even though you can hear the water going round the system. There a just a pilot light in the boiler but it doesn't really 'fire up' and get hot. It used to get warm on the side in operation but now is cold, and the thermostat knob gives no response.
The plumber asked if we had the manual, he suggested the gas valve may need replacing and wanted to know model number. There a Honeywell sticker on a metal box at the back stating 'Type V4700e' Would be the part he means? He's coming back tomorrow, maybe I can just give him the sticker to take to his suppliers.

If the thermostat knob & electronics are knackered can they be repaired? If not then we're stuffed :(

the v4700e is the type of gas valve and should be enough to order a new one.

i would imagine this is a 240v gas valve so can easily be tested to rule out the faulty thermostat and microswitch. as well as maybe testing the solenoid.

also final tip have you tried giving the valve a 'slight' tap from underneath.
might be stuck. known this to happen on the old ideal elans

Might be the stat, might be the gas valve. Needs testing.

Data for setting up new gas valve should be on the Watson House Plate (Appliance Data Badge) like a VIN plate on a car. Usually in the most obscure inaccessipble place, last place you would think to look, will require 20 20 vision ability to read braille and use of a torch and magnifying glass and a mirror that can see round corners.

Are V700E's standard, or does the number at the end make a difference. Our's is a V4700E 1072 1

This ebay one is a V4700E 1049 (9223)

I'm thinking that it's the same part but a different revision so would still fit, or would it be incompatible?

I don't think it is significant but a phone call to Honeywell would sort it out once and for all.

I know they are cheap valves but even so wouldn't it be worth checking the solenoid resistance first?

to be honest just call someone out .. get it fixed, self diagnosis is both dangerous and time consuming, it could be many things .. the pilot is held in by the flame so there is no way of knowing if there is power there with out testing it ..
faults could be :

check for power at the boiler not just a live check the neutral too.
y plan or s plan valve faulty.
clock not throwing a live to y paln or s plan
faulty room stat.
something as silly as a fuse.
etc etc.

not only will the engineer repair the fault he will see if it is safe to use ie: seals to the casing and FF device check his rates before he starts the work and he wont surprize you with a silly price .

Well it couldn't actually be most of those things could it 2face as it is spinning up[ the pump.
