Hi, Can anyone help. We have a wired alarm system with window sensors which we had to loosen when we had new windows installed this week. Now there is a fault and the system wont set. We have taken off all the sensors and bridged the wires and it still wont set. So we think there is a broken wire somewhere. Can anyone tell us how we can trace the broken wire? We have a Cooper Menvier control panel. Many thanks. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hello.

1.Are there any 'fault' light's on the panel ?

2. Have you checked all the cables carefully and made sure the window fitters haven't 'nipped' a cable ?

3. Do you have an electrical multimeter ??

Hi, Thanks for replying so quickly. 1. Yes there is a fault light on the panel -for zone 1 which is all the windows. 2. We do have a multimeter 3. We think one of the cables has been nicked but the problem is how to find out which cable has been cut? Any ideas how to do this. Cheers,Emma

forgrt the fact its an alsrm its just basic fault finding

I would start at the end and work backwards

Hello,

A continiuty test would enable you find a break in the cable.

Switch the panel off before taking the cover off !

Thanks tSparky and Breezer - hurrah! After crawling about in the loft we've found the fault on the very last window wiring checked. So, we are just going to bridge over that window at the moment and get the alarm working on all the other windows (large bungalow). Luckily the fault is the big living room window, so we can live without that for the time being. Many thanks once again. Emma.

happy to have helped.

sparky 40, switching off the panel will do no good since all ccts should be protected by a tamper, engineers code disables it, or user code to turn it off when actvated, but in this case if tamper was broken on this cct nothing much will happen

Sorry Breezer,
I just thought they might start testing at the 'live' panel.
