Hi, new to this forum so go easy on me! I've had a wood burner installed in my 1930's house for around a year but it isn't giving off much heat into the room. I'm pretty sure it's sat too far back in the recess and most of the heat is going into the brickwork so I want to move it forward slightly (with offset flue pipe) and widen and raise the dimensions of the recess. Ideally by one brick each side, and by two above. Only problem is there is some sort of brick gather at the back which I'm not sure on. Will I be able to remove this gather? It's difficult to tell if it's structural or not. There is a concrete lintel at the front of the recess which I installed so the front is no problem. Would it need another lintel at the back if the gather was to be removed? It may not even be a gather I'm not sure as they bricks are quite loose. Any help greatly appreciated.
