Here is the situation
Old cottage (very old) the bedroom floor is to damaged pitted worn etc for sanding
I cant lift and replace boards is it would cause damage to downstairs ceiling
So im looking to overlay with new pine T&G floorboards
If I go the same way as the original boards can I nail them over the existing?
If I cant fix will gluing the joints be enough to stop the joints opening with shrinkage?
And will I need an expansion gap? If so how big? The room is around 4m square.
One other problem as the building is so old the floor now has a dip in it due to the movement of the building what would I do about this?
If I put a 8ft board across this part of the floor the new board will be flat but towards the centre of the board there will be a gap underneath where the old floor has a wave in it can I just pack this gap with some slithers of timber?
Help/ideas needed please
