I have a small old cottage
The bedroom floorboards are I think a bit to old for sanding so im looking for a low cost way to replace the floor but nothing modern.
I was thinking about getting ordinary pine t&g floorboards from wicks and overlaying them so
Do I fix ? As im worried about the boards coming open at the joints if I don’t.
Do I need an expansion gap if so how big ?.
I can’t lift the old ones as the downstairs ceiling is exposed beams and this would cause to much damage.
Is it better to lay the same way as the original or at right angles ?
Or can you suggest any other alternatives.
The room is around 4m square.
Many thanks

Also what would I use in the expansion gap if anything
I remember using cork in laminate some time ago
If I glue the boards together will this stop the joints opening when they expand/contract?
