Henry hoover issue

I have a Henry hoover where the red light comes on but it does not switch on. I assumed it would be a faulty switch. I disconnected the switch and checked continuity across the lugs. It has continuity when the switch is in the on position. This would suggest the switch is okay?

I did also try to join these cables as shown by the white lines I have drawn on this. When I switch it on from the mains, it still doesn’t switch on and the red light remains lit.

Also, it stopped working all of a sudden. There was no smell or sound before it stopped working.

I have fixed a few Henry’s in the past but at a loss with this.

Can I get your thoughts on this please.

Switch failure seems to be very common on those. It could be breaking down under load as could the wires you connected. If you are confident that isn't the case then you will need to start checking for a voltage to and from the switch and to the motor. and anything in between.

Also check the motor for the brushes, they may need replacing.
The carbon brushes are cheap enough on Amazon if you find the right ones.
