Hen's teeth? Rocking horse ****?

Seem to have had so much else to do, not finished yet. We held off anyway until we'd finished the planting, in case they got in the way of digging big-ish holes for shrubs, (or whacked by some clumsy tw@ with a spade), and I then found that the pads put in by the builders (now long since departed) weren't right - one wasn't level, they were at different depths and neither were wide enough.

So having now cut various bits of stainless steel to rectify that, the lights are fixed in place.

The wiring up will happen next weekend, I hope - depends on the weather.

Plan is to take the armoured in and out of galvanised trouser boxes with either choc-block inside or crimped joins (I want to try that first, and see how well it works with 3 or 4 conductors in a crimp). Then as the boxes won't fit inside the bollards, non-setting waterproofing compound inside and self amalgamating tape wrapped around the outside.

And because of where we've decided to mount the box in which the accessories etc are housed, I won't need a 16mm gland, either. :D

In time honoured stylie I'll post photos of the work.....

Sounds about right

Crimps aren't very good with more than one cable. I would stick to terminal block

That sounds really messy. Why not use a small waterproof box?

As they're stranded I thought it might have been worth a try....

I've often wondered why they don't make Y shaped crimps...

Well it would need to be metal, as they will be "buried" (actually covered with pebbles in a border at the edge of some paving) so they could get trodden on, which would mean I wouldn't be happy with plastic boxes. Also I haven't got a lot of space to play with for concealing the boxes, and the conduit ones are nice and shallow - I'd never get gland locknuts, let alone Piranhas, on the inside of an adaptable box that small.

Ban

I would try & crimp if you can. With screwed conns needing to be "accessible", you may not fancy unwinding all that tape to get access to the box contents...!
