Hep pipe near boiler....

Its hard when the information you get conflicts.

Many people make this point though I don't see why everyone in our industry is expected to have an identical view when medical, legal and other higher end professions don't do.

Football refs, for example, do the exact same task, every time, and still can't agree.

have corrected my post to clarify after the x800 to individual rads to then open all rads so the whole system gets the x800 for a few hours. Though better put this hear as my post has been quoted.

I don't expect people to have identical views, however, my curiosity leads me to ask questions if information conflicts - surely thats normal? Looking at some of the answers above, which again are slightly different, but they have given me a better insight to my concerns. I'm interested in learning about parts of the building game that i'm less aware.

And as for football refs, they are consistently questioned over every decision they make, and red cards get overturned and acts of violence get punished retrospectively, so i'd say on that note, its fair to be able to question people. I'm not doing it maliciously, i'm not doing because I want to catch anyone out, I do it so that I am as best informed for the customers I sell my business to.

Does that mean the job is not for you, but by you for a customer. If so do you not have a regular top rank plumbing & heating bod on the firm?

Correct. I don't currently have quite enough work for a full timer, company has expanded reasonably rapidly over the last 12 months and as such still rely on subbies, but I haven't had a lot of luck with plumbers this year. Know anyone good down my way?

Ask powred heating (merchant) who their good customers are, deffo be able to recommend someone.

I am pleased to see that as a builder you are concerned about the quality of work your plumber has done for your client.

Its a pity that more builders are not so interested. Most of the problems we read about here are from people whose builder used an incompetent and then tried to cover up the problems!

There was a very long thread a few weeks ago when the builder's plumber had to be thrown off the job! Luckily the builder agreed to appoint a new heating engineer to sort it out. The rest of the work was all to a high standard though.

Of course from the professional's point of view we dont like working for builders because they usually want the job to be done badly using the worst materials and usually give problems paying us because they are waiting on the customer to pay them.

Thanks Agile - appreciate the response.

We're definitely not the type of builders you guys should fear!! We have strict payment terms with our subbies, most of whom are paid within 3 days - payment terms with clients are much less frequent, and in my opinion entirely unrelated to the subbie. If you have done the work, then you need paying!

Also, to add, I would probably like better materials used and the best job possible, if we get it right upfront then we don't get called back for maintenance issues, just more work.

Anyhow, one thing thats just dawning on me - should I use a different plumber for my heating and a different one to do my kitchens/bathrooms? This current incumbent seems only interested in things when the juicy boilers come up.....
