Hi everyone, had to sign up again although I've been a member since 2008. Lost my password plus email provider (Orange) which has closed down.

I have an outdoor hi lo lamp which has stopped working. I replaced the halogen bulb with this http://www.screwfix.com/p/halogen-gls-light-bulbs-es-46w-3-pack/8042k?_requestid=283130halogen dimable bulb (I tried all three) but it wouldn't come on at all.

I then tried a dimable LED bulb. https://cdn2.ledhut.co.uk/media/cat...08d6e5fb8d27136e95/e/2/e27-can-5w_box-new.jpg This one is permanently on day and night and most confusingly it dims when it detects movement!

Is there a special bulb for these lamps other than a standard dimable one? I don't want to change the whole fitting cause it's been a reliable little lamp for 15 years (unlike all the LidldeAldi ones I've had which fail or rust away here in sunny Newquay!

The hi-lo type of fittings generally use standard filament lamps, so the halogen ones should be ok. They don't work with any sort of low energy lamp (CFL/LED).

It does sound as though your fitting might be due for replacement.

Thanks for that. It's weird that it works in reverse with the led bulb fitted though.. Looking at your avatar makes me think it could be the flux capacitor!
