Hi, i'm nearly upto roof wall plate level on my extension. The length is 4.9m long & 4.85m wide, wall plate to wall plate. It is a hipped roof conecting into existing roof.
Will it be cheaper to get some roof trussess made approx 4.85m wall plate to wall plate x 1.7m hight, approx 30 degree pitch, or DIY the roof timbers myself.
I've done a hipped roof before on my garage but just wandering the cost of trussess made to order.
Thanks,
Andy.

at the spans you are talking about, trusses seem the most logical.

the ceiling joists would be considerable as will the hip rafters.

and there is the issue of purlins or clear span.

unless there is a dividing wall perhaps............?

i prefer to build a cut roof where i can but trusses do solve large span problems rather conveniently.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Can the hips be made from trussess and any idea on the approx cost of trussess?

truss manufacturers can provide trusses to suit any roof design.

there may be a girder truss with a diminishing set or whatever.

ring a local company and ask them to quote. they are falling over themselves around here to get your attention. ;)
