Hi all
I have a circa 30yr old Worcester Danesmoor oil boiler and need some guidance on wiring in a hive receiver.
The boiler has no external programmer connected, only a mechanical timer. It’s also single channel, controlling the hot water using it’s own internal logic.

I have the original installer manual which has a helpful wiring diagram which I’ve attached here.

I have bought the single channel hive receiver and just want to check I have the wiring correct before I install.
On the hive terminal I believe I need to link COM to L. Then connect NO (switched live) to terminal 1 on the boiler terminal block.

Appreciate if someone could advise me if this is correct or let me know where I’ve got it wrong.

Thanks. That makes sense. I did some more research after I posted and found some info that supports this. Thanks again.

Interested to hear how it works. I debated between Hive and Wiser, in the end went for Wiser. But have found TRV heads with on/off oil boiler do not work as well as they did with gas modulating boiler.

They work, and have reduced costs, and got rooms in use to required temperature. Started with useless Nest Gen 3, which did not connect to the TRV heads in any meaningful way. Still have Nest Gen 3 which allows me if required to turn on DHW heating with oil, it still can turn on CH, but a look at history shows it has not done that for quite some time, as the Wiser has kept house warm enough. I keep it, as there is an open fire in the living room where wiser is, so if that was lit, without the Nest, the rest of the house could get cold.

I only have one linked TRV head, in wife's bedroom, and it does on a cold night activate the heating, in the main the other TRV heads seems to work without linking, as the boiler runs for long enough for them to control the heat in other rooms.

The whole idea of Wiser or Hive was that it could be linked to TRV heads, I don't know if Hive gives you a graph, I can see how Wiser has done 1770210299075.pngalso it shows outside 1770210352532.png I assume it uses internet as no sensors outside. It all looks very pretty, but does this 1770210575393.pngreally help? It now keeps living room warm enough, and the other rooms don't really matter that much. Wife bedroom 1770210850416.pngalso keep warm enough with the linked TRV head, but would have Hive done exactly the same? and Hive is cheaper, so would like to hear how yours works.

Installed it today. In the end I simply swapped out the old mechanical room stat on terminals 1 & 2 and connected these to COM and NO on the hive (along with permanent L and N). Works very well. Only controls the CH of course, but I knew that would be the case. I’ve set the original timer to ‘on 24 hrs’ for both water and heating so hive now controls heating. Time will tell if it’s more economical than the old mechanical timer that only had capacity to program CH to come twice a day. I went with hive based on experience of some friends and family. Loving the remote control options through phone and Alexa. I’ll be buying some radiator stats too.
