I thought I would try fitting a hive after the heating stopped working. Boiler seemed happy but not kicking in. Presumed was the old Honeywell thermostat that looks ancient on its way out.

I have a conventional boiler.

Drayton programmer removed giving me these wires.

Can anyone assist? I’m not getting the heating kicking in but hot water will.
Not rushed on the heating side really due to the weather but nice if it’s something I can sort myself

I know it was a landlord special and the bloke that was the odd job man come electrician/plumber and master carpenter (to name a few) would give anything a go. So in his spirit lol

Yes the system all needs ripping out as there are more pipes and pumps than surely needed for a small flat but haven’t the moola for that at the moment.

Looks like a Y-plan, hopefully you have the Hive dual channel receiver? Would say use the Drayton backplate, but you appear to be missing a captive screw. Your problem is more likely related to the motorised valve.

Since there is a DHW off wire, and @CountryFan says likely a Y Plan. The DHW with a Y Plan the boiler is triggered direct from the thermostat, and the default position for the three port valve is DHW, so any fault with three port valve, and DHW will still work.

I hate those backplates, as you can't put probes on to test, normally there is somewhere a wiring centre.

If the microswitch has failed in the motorised valve sometimes latching the valve open will get CH to work, but inside the valve is complex

A good instruction set on how it works here
