Hive install.. What have I done wrong?

I am replacing on old lifestyle receiver and worked thermostat with a hive active heating setup. Took the old box off and thought I had wired the new one in but the heating will not come on.
The old thermostat had a white wire which was joined to a white wire coming from the boiler so that's the wire I put into the CH on slot and I think that may be where I went wrong. Any and all help gratefully received before the Mrs starts barking.
Pic one is how I have it now, pic 2 shows the wire from the old wired thermostat for reference.

For now, can you add the make and model of your boiler. The Hive type you have.

The boiler is a valiant ecotec plus 831and the hive single receiver model is slr1b
