Hey room I've recently moved into a house and discovered that there is a hole approx 12"x12" at the base of a wall that leads under the stairs. Now the hole is hollow and I'm not the most experienced person at diy.

Could anyone please tell me what equipment I need to do this myself or step by step guide for this kind of scenario?

Thank You

Chris

photo please so we know what you mean http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=129539

is the wall brick, block, or plasterboard on a wooden frame?how old is the house? Does it ventilate the underfloor space? Catflap?

do you think it is access for pipes or cables, or maybe the previous occupiers had a wall-safe in there?

Allow me a little time and I will arrange a pic. House is approx. 110 years old and the wall appears to be plaster board. It would appear that this was once a space for under the stairs but at some point the wall was built to hide the view from under the stairs.

I think the previous occupiers were angry people as the hole appears to be the result of a kick

More information will follow with pic.

Thanks

I apologise for the late pic and the poor quality and angle of it.

Unfortunately I'm still none the wiser on what kind the wall is

could it be plasterboard with a plaster skim on it? plasterboard has a rough paper coating on each side and a brittle grey layer of plaster in the middle. It shoud be supported on wooden studs no more than 600mm apart. It is fireproof. it is commonly used for non-loadbearing partition walls.
