I have recently had central heating installed and where they have put copper pipe through the walls, it has left quite a big hole around the pipes and they tick when they contract. Am I ok to fill the space in void with filler or would filler foam be better?

How big is the hole? Use silicon
It gives a bit with expansion.mortar would possibly crack and fall out easier.
