To FIX or not to FIX that is the question.

My router with its home made thick laminate, approx 2.5mm, base plate [original removed] fits a treat into the table top recess of my home made table [plywood 18mm].
Should I fix each corner of the base plate with screws or is it safe to leave un-fixed so I can just lift out the router to use free hand?

Many people, I believe, leave them unfixed, relying on the weight of the router (along with a snug fit) to keep them in place. This makes it easy to lift the router out to make adjustments quickly.

As I'm building my own table at the moment, I'm asking myself the same question. The thought of a large running router, with cutter, leaping unrestrained around the workshop, doesn't appeal.

So I'm wondering whether rare earth magnets stuck to the bottom of the plate would be the answer.
