Just bought and tried to install the Hive controller.

I am replacing a Honeywell R6660D and had no external programmer only a wireless thermostat. This is controlling a Valiant Ecotech 825

The wiring on the Honeywell R6660D had a link from L to A. And the Heating On connected to B

I've wired the Hive controller as before with the link from L to 1 (common), and the Heating On connected to 3.

The Hive itself appears to be working perfectly, but it's not switching the boiler on. Don't want to mess up the controller, but can I safely remove the link?

The Honeywell terminals are:

As you say there was a link between (L) and (A) at the R6660D, then you will also need a link at the Hive single channel receiver between (L) and (1) Common. Otherwise the Hive contacts won't have a live supply to switch.

The wire that was previously in the Honeywell (B) terminal would now go to the Hive (3) 'Heating On'

Thanks. Took the face off to check wiring and reseated front. Seems giving the controller an "off and on again" has brought it to life.

Will check later once I get back in.

I know you said that there isn't an external programmer, but if there is any time control built into the boiler, then that will normally need to be set permanently 'on' 24/7
