Morning all. I had a new boiler fitted in October and everything has been lovely. The noise may have nothing to do with the new boiler.

Over the past couple of days when I have had a bath or shower I have an intermittent "honking" noise coming front the loft when the tank is refilling. Sometimes its for 10 seconds or less and sometimes a little longer. It sounds almost like something is stuck while it honks and then releases and fills normally. Any ideas? I've had a look in the airing cupboard when it does it and the cold copper pipe which goes up into the loft is vibrating.

I've had a look at water hammer videos on the internet but its not that sound but really does sound like a honk, honk honk sound - LOL

Many thanks in advance for your advice - not sure if to call the central heating engineer or plumber :D

Sounds like the ball valve making a noise, or a trapped goose!

Wave a bit of bread around through the loft hatch if no goose appears you need someone to look at the ball (sometimes called a float) valve.

For some reason as the incoming water causes ripples in the tank water, the ball is bouncing and the water entering is making a noise as it passes through the valve, rather like a wind instrument does.

Of course it could be the goose making the ripples too, do check for golden eggs you never know!

Plumber or heating engineer either can sort it.

Thanks peeps - it was a gaggle of geese, but sadly no golden ones :(

Ok will give the plumber a buzz - thanks for your prompt responses :)
