Hoover HNMF 2805a Fridge Freezer Defrosted

Had an issue with the freezer section completely defrosting a couple of days ago, to the point where everything inside was completely thawed. The fridge was unaffected. Oddly, it then refroze with no input from me & has remained frozen.

Can anyone suggest why this might have been? I think it has a single compressor so possibly a fault with the frost free? Now have to try to work out whether it's likely to happen again. Could probably do with replacing given its age, but it's a narrow circa 54cm & might be difficult to replace given nothing wider will fit.

Thermostat fault although a complete guess.
Not much to fridges. Thermostat. Pump. Controller.
Sometimes it's cheap and easy to swap so decide if it's worth a punt

There are independent controls on some fridge/freezers even with a single motor, I have noted the defrost cycle on mine seems to have a variable time, but I am sure there is an alarm if the temperature goes too high, I know with a power cut, on power returning it shows highest temperature reached until the door is opened when it is reset.

I can't get the manual for your model, however with my own Hoover I found the ice could jam the fan, and around once a year had to switch off and empty it, and prop open doors, and aim a fan at the freezer to melt the ice built up behind the shield. Once this was done got another year without a problem, but since behind the shield, had to wait until floor of freezer was dry to be sure all melted behind the shield.

Thanks, this is an older, basic model. So no dual controls, alarms or temp readouts.

I'll empty it on next food recycling day & maybe fill it with bread & see what happens. But not sure it's worth risking the cost of another full defrost. Just a pain trying to find a replacement to fit.

We lost a fridge/freezer and freezer just before moving, when the RCD tripped while looking after my mother, could not claim on insurance as house was not occupied at the time. Which is why went all RCBO with this house, and now have an EPS supply for fridges and freezers.

Space is a problem one wall has fridge/freezer, chest freezer under the window then freezer, nothing else on the wall, and wife says the kitchen is not big enough, what happened is both our parents died, and we ended up with three homes worth of stuff, and 10 years latter still not sorted it all.

We also have a small freezer unused, and a fridge/freezer only used at BBQ time.

But the original idea was, a small fridge/freezer for everyday use, and a larger freezer to allow bulk buying. Sidoli factory shop has some good deals, but a whole catering cake takes some getting through.

As to the amount of bread thrown out, as no freezer room.

But the main problem is the energy use charts etc. To get within the limits, manufacturers need to have a freezer smaller than the fridge, which is the reverse to what users require, so we end up with a second freezer.

The chest freezer was to be mine, to brew my beer in, but some 8 years ago I stopped brewing, as Morrison's were doing 4 cans for 99p, it was not worth all the hassle of brewing at that cost.

But Welsh goverment (labour thank goodness got rid of them now) decided to tax cheap beer I think to reduce how much we drink, so it went to £1.75 per pack, so started brewing again, so now drink 5%+ beer instead of 2% beer, it seems according to labour that's better for you, suppose it makes one more relaxed when one falls, so less injuries, but 2% means less likely to fall in the first place.
