Hoover VHV680C fitting door felt seal

Sorry to have to ask, but I have the above tumble dryer model. Having positioned a felt door seal on the inside of the drum opening, it is too thick for the drum to turn, any suggestions please?

Okay, I am about to fit a new felt seal and am asking if it should be stuck to the metal drum or the plastic outer?
