We took our washing machine to a repair guy and he says that the bearings and the shaft need replacing.
He says the cost makes it not worth fixing cos the parts alone will be over £100.

My OH is a pretty handy guy (he's a builder) and is able to fix most things so was wondering where the best place is to get the parts at a cheap rate and also where there's any info or videos on actually carrying out the repair?

Lots of vids on youtube of bearing changes.

Parts alone should not cost £100 for a bearing kit and spider (can not really tell if the spider has gone until you take it apart unless it has gone in a big way)

If you list the model and product code you may get specific advice and parts costings
