I have drained the cold water storage tank & syphoned the water from my hot water cylinder. In preperation for a back boiler/combi swap. When I turn the hot & cold bath taps on, water comes from the hot water pipe that runs from the top of the cylinder. Turning either tap off stops the flow. What gives? is this normal.. Thanks.

If I understand correctly, you have a bath mixer tap. When you turn on hot tap nothing comes out. When you now open cold tap, cold water comes out of tap and some back-feeds up the hot pipe and runs out of top cylinder connection. Any kitchen mixer or basin mixer will do the same.
