Hello
I need some help: I got a gravity fed system with the tank in the loft feeding the hot water cylinder on the second floor cupboard.
Cold from mains.
Now, we had installed a Stuart Turner pump (negative head to cover all posibilities) 3.5 bar on the hot water circuit just after the exit from the hot water tank (flange installed as well on the top of the tank)which worked fine.
However after a while (2-3 years) the pump did not stop always when you turn off the hot water tap and it kept going on and on. I had to use the electric switch to put it off.
Now we just switch it ON from the electric switch only before we have a shower and OFF after we finish.
Something else, we use to have hot water running even with the pump ****ched off, but not anymore.
And finally, it did happened couple of times to have hot hater coming from a cold tap (first floor bathroom).
It drives me crazy as I do not understand what's going on???
I have checked the water tank in the loft and found out that if the pump does not stop and keeps going, the water temperature in the tank is going up (is not cold, more like warmish...).
I got a thermostat tap in the top floor bath and my only explination would be that this mixer is gone and the hot water (due to 3.5 bars) actually pushes the cold water(which might come from the loft not sure....) back into the loft tank.
After I changed the pump (put same type) and the thermostat, everything worked for about a year, but now again the same things happening: pump not always stops, not having hot water if the pump is switched off.
Any ideas?
I will have a new boiler installed and will ask the plumber, but if anybody can come up with a solution/suggestion will be very much appreciated.
Thank you.
Mike
