how hard would it be to syphon off the hot water tank? cant drain it because the pipe to drain it off was cut from the tank when they removed the old back boiler, is it possible to syphon off and if so how is it done my plumber say's it cant be done  and just to let it evaporate

i take it your talking about the cylinder.
remove the pipe from the top of the cylinder and drop a hose in.

Shuggie,

Can you clarify what you mean by hot water tank, do you mean the cylinder.

Isolate the supply to the cylinder so no head of pressure being exerted on cylinder.

Get a few towels and a hosepipe ready. Undon the connect on the top of the cylinder where the hot water comes out. Stick your hosepipein and syphon the water out.

sorry lads it is the cylinder, the plumber said something about the type of cylinder is the reason he cant syphon it off, said he tried but something about elements inside stopped the hose going in?? not being a plumber it looks just a normal cylinder to me i think he just could not be a----d so if its not that hard to do and takes a bit of time wil just do it meself cheers

is he a plumber or handyman ?

even if it is a indirect cylinder with heating coil the hose will drop through the middle.

no he is a plumber just EFFIN lazy! they installed a new combi boiler for me corgi reg and all that, told them just to leave the old cylinder in as its behind a fitted unit but you can access the top thats where he cut out the two pipes and they were meant to empty the water out as its not in use now

sounds a sensible place to put it.
