I have an Ideal Classic FF-2 boiler, with a Megaflo tank and Lifestyle LP522 timer. My problem is I can only get hot water when the central heating is on.

If I turn off the C/H on the timer on set the H/W to on, the boiler does not fire up. I have to set the C/H to on and the H/W to on, to get H/W. When C/H and H/W are set to 'on' on the timer, I have tried turning off all the room thermostats to trick the system. In this case the H/W does not get hot as the boiler does not fire up. As soon as I turn up a thermostat the boiler fires up and gives me C/H and H/W.

Any ideas or help would be aprreciated.

sounds like a faulty programmer or either the wiring on the motorised valve is wrong or the stat on the megaflo has gone.

i would suspect a faulty microswitch in hw 2 port valve, not calling boiler when open. replace powerhead.

I would say the motor in the (Megaflow) motorised valve is kaput. The valve is in manual position, therefore, water only heats as long as CH is running. CH switches off, water goes off as well.

Check syncron motor and change if duff. If valve opens, switch within defect. If this is the way it has always worked, suspect wiring and also get installation checked as there might be installation defects present.

has it always been like that, or started doing it recently?

have you moved the switch on the back of the programmer?
